What's still blooming in November?
November usually brings a bit more of a wintry feel… The first frost isn’t far off. But neither is the rain: in recent years, November has seemed particularly wet! The combination of wet and cold isn’t ideal for many plants. Still, there are definitely some plants that even bloom in November!
Our Favorite Fall-Blooming Plants for November
Fortunately, there are still quite a few plants blooming this month. Our favorite fall-blooming flower bulbs These include Colchicum (autumn crocus, not to be confused with “autumn-less”), Nerine (cliff lily), and Cyclamen (garden cyclamen).
At the perennials As far as we’re concerned, our favorites that bloom in November are Persicaria (knotweed) and Aster. Although this is the first year we’ve had fall asters in our own garden, we wouldn’t want to be without them now. Verbena (still beautiful) and hardy fuchsias are also must-haves.
In our opinion, the most beautiful shrubs and trees that bloom in November are the fall-blooming Camellia (sasanqua), Mahonia, Viburnum (both tinus and bodnantense), and, of course, the winter cherry: Prunus subhirtella autumnalis, with its beautiful, somewhat more subtle blossoms!
Winter jasmine (Jasminum nudiflorum) and Clematis cirrhosa are, in our opinion, the most beautiful climbing plants that bloom in November. And to be honest: even flowering ivy is a sight to behold!
Of course, you can also add plenty of color to your garden in November with annuals.
