July in the Vegetable Garden: What You Can Still Sow and Transplant

Summer is in full swing. There’s already plenty to harvest in the vegetable garden. Fortunately, it’s not too late to sow and transplant. Here are some tips for vegetables you can still plant in your vegetable garden right now.

Zucchini, fava beans, sugar snap peas, leaf lettuce, arugula, perennial spinach: I’ve harvested all sorts of things lately. Delicious! The main planting season is definitely over now, but that doesn’t mean there’s absolutely nothing left to plant. There are still plenty of options! Here are a few.

Sowing

  • Radishes (from early July through mid-August)
  • Arugula (through the end of September)
  • Endive (through mid-July)
  • Mesclun (through mid-August)
  • Green beans (through early July)
  • Pak choi and tatsoi (through mid-August)
  • Turnip greens (from mid-July to mid-August)
  • Spinach (from mid-July through the end of September)
  • Zucchini (through early July)
  • Fennel bulbs (through early July)
  • Swiss chard (mid-August)

You can also sow palm kale this month with great results. It’s one of my favorite vegetables in the vegetable garden!

Transplanting

Have you already started your seedlings, or can you get some from someone or buy them? If so, here are a few more options for planting out this month:

  • Winter Leeks
  • Kale
  • Broccoli
  • Pak choi,
  • Green bean
  • Endive
  • Fennel Bulb

Have fun in your vegetable garden!
