English-Style Garden Makeovers: Garden Rescue

But are you constantly disappointed by the limited variety of formats and shows on Dutch TV, which seem more like endless commercial breaks?

Garden Rescue is definitely worth checking out!

This is a British gardening show on TV (BBC) in which two landscape architects create a design for a new garden based on the homeowners’ wishes and the available budget. The two garden designs are then pitched. This draws extra attention to the design. After the two pitches, it’s up to the clients to choose their favorite garden design.

The winning garden design will then be brought to life by a team of gardeners and the designers themselves. Only the costs for materials and plants will be charged.

The construction of the garden based on the winning design is clearly illustrated, and various tips are provided throughout the process.

Often, people also cobble together various items using inexpensive materials, or, for example, pallets that were used to deliver the plants and supplies.

Of course, at the end, the garden is unveiled, and you get to see people's reactions to their new garden.

A gardening show with no commercials!

All of this, without commercials every 10 minutes, or clearly visible sponsored content, no brand or store names, or websites on screen, or any other forms of product placement!

So it is possible after all!

Lots and lots of episodes

There are now 5 seasons, and each season has quite a few episodes. That means plenty of hours of viewing pleasure!

In the first few seasons, the garden designers are brothers Harry and David Rich (who have also won several awards at the Chelsea Flower Show for their designs) and Charlie Dimmock (who has appeared in several earlier gardening shows). In later seasons, Arit Anderson (also known from the Chelsea Flower Show) joins the cast.

Although the format is fairly set, it does help that the hosts like to crack a joke here and there and regularly offer helpful tips while the gardens are being created.

As far as we're concerned, "Garden Rescue" is definitely worth watching!
