7 Cheerful Yellow Flowers for Easter

The color for Easter is, of course, yellow. In the spring, in particular, there are also several beautiful plants that bloom in yellow. While the color yellow is still much less popular for summer-blooming plants, yellow flowers are certainly appreciated in the spring. Brighten up your garden (or home) with these 7 plants that bloom in yellow around Easter.

Daffodil

The best-known yellow-flowering plant is, of course, the daffodil. Most daffodils have yellow flowers, and they range from small (such as the popular Narcissus ‘Tête à Tête’ and ‘February Gold’) to large (such as Narcissus ‘Carlton’ and ‘Dutch Master’). There are also both single-flowered and double-flowered daffodils (such as Narcissus ‘Rip van Winkle’). Daffodils in the garden (or indoors) really bring that springtime feeling!

Yellow tulips

Early-blooming tulips are also a great way to add a splash of color in the spring. There are several yellow tulips that are perfect for Easter, such as Tulipa ‘Yellow Purrisima’ and ‘Apeldoorn’. Just be sure to specifically choose tulips that bloom early; otherwise, they usually won’t bloom until after Easter.

Cowslip

There are several types of primroses. The colorful variety you find at garden centers and home improvement stores in the spring is often Primula acaulis. Also beautiful (and much more subtle) are the stemless primrose (Primula vulgaris), with white to off-white flowers, and the cowslip or true primrose (Primula veris), with yellow flowers on a slightly longer stem.

Anemone Bush

The ranunculus shrub (Kerria japonica), also known as kerria or kerria shrub, is (unfortunately) much less common in our gardens. Yet it is a beautiful plant with striking yellow flowers and fresh green foliage. It usually blooms in early April, but in recent years, flowering seems to have started earlier. There is also a double-flowered variety: Kerria japonica ‘Pleniflora’. The ranunculus shrub can be grown in full sun or (partial) shade and requires little maintenance.

Forsythia

The Chinese bellflower, better known to most as forsythia, is a beautiful, densely branched shrub that blooms early in the year with bright yellow flowers. The entire shrub turns yellow! Flowering usually begins in February or March. Toward the end of the blooming season (around Easter), the fresh green foliage also begins to emerge. This often coincides with the last of the blooms, creating another beautiful sight.

Marsh Marigold

All along the water’s edge, you can also see the beautiful yellow flowers of the marsh marigold (Caltha palustris) around this time of year. Its dark green leaves are heart-shaped. A second bloom may occur around August–September. If you have a pond or a wet area in your garden, this lovely plant can bring you a lot of joy!

Mahogany bush

Mahonia aquifolium, also known as the mahonia shrub, is an evergreen shrub with prickly leaves. In winter, the leaves often turn bronze. Striking yellow flowers appear around March–April. After flowering, the mahonia produces blue-black berries. The best location for the mahonia shrub is in partial shade or full shade.
